Virality Score

What Is a Good Virality Score? (And How to Improve Yours)

April 9, 2026 · 5 min read

The Virality Score is Songbrain's headline metric — a number from 0 to 100 that predicts how shareable your track is across TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts and Spotify. But what does the number actually mean, and what should you aim for?

Score ranges explained

90 – 100Exceptional

Top-tier viral potential. Strong candidate for Viral Radar playlists. These tracks have everything — hook, energy, production, timing.

70 – 89Strong

High viral potential. Likely to be considered for playlist placement. Most tracks that perform well on social media fall in this range.

40 – 69Moderate

Solid track with some viral elements. May need stronger hooks, better production or more energy to break through.

0 – 39Developing

The track needs work. Focus on the areas flagged in your Song DNA report — usually production quality, energy or hook strength.

What factors determine your score?

The Virality Score isn't based on a single metric. It's the fusion of multiple AI evaluations that together paint a complete picture of your track's viral potential:

Best Moments quality
How strong and defined are your hooks? High-confidence Best Moments = higher score.
Energy profile
Does your track have enough energy variation to keep listeners engaged? Flat energy = lower score.
Production quality
Loudness, dynamic range, frequency balance — how does your mix compare to current chart standards?
Lyrics impact
Emotional delivery, structure, originality — lyrics that connect score higher.
Genre trend alignment
Is your sound aligned with what's currently trending in your genre?
Overall catchiness
The combined effect of melody, rhythm and vocals — how sticky is the track?

How to improve your Virality Score

Your score isn't fixed. Every track is different, and small changes can have a big impact. Here are practical ways to move the needle:

01
Lead with your strongest moment

If your Best Moment is at 2:30, consider restructuring. The hook should come early — especially for streaming and social media.

02
Tighten your production

Check your LUFS, dynamic range and frequency balance in the Song DNA report. Small production improvements can significantly boost your score.

03
Create energy contrast

Songs with clear quiet-loud dynamics score better than tracks that stay at the same level. Build anticipation, then deliver.

04
Study your genre leaders

Analyze tracks that are currently viral in your genre. Compare their Song DNA to yours — what are the differences?

05
Test multiple versions

Upload different mixes or versions of the same song. Compare the scores to see which changes move the needle.

06
Focus on the first 30 seconds

Streaming platforms decide in the first few seconds whether to push your track. Make sure your opening is strong enough to hold attention.

Important: scores are relative to genre

A score of 75 in Metalcore means something different than 75 in Pop. Each genre has different characteristics that define virality. A heavy breakdown that scores high in Metal might not register in Pop — and vice versa. The Virality Score accounts for genre context.
